Indiana Residents Directory is not a government office or records custodian. It is a private reference and cannot retrieve files, issue certified copies, confirm who lives at an address, or change an official roll. Direct record requests to the office that maintains the file. Call 911 in an emergency. For stalking or harassment concerns, contact local law enforcement.
Route a Record Request
Choose the Indiana reference section that matches the question, then contact the custodian named there:
- Address and parcel records: start with Indiana records by street.
- Historical volumes: use the Indiana city directory collections.
- One person across official records: follow the Indiana resident lookup.
- Office roles: see Indiana’s resident-record custodians.
- An offline public record: make a particular request under the Indiana Access to Public Records Act (APRA) to the office that holds it.
Indiana Archives and Records Administration (IARA), State Archives: 6440 E 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219; 317-591-5222; arc@iara.in.gov. The reading room is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; appointments are encouraged because staff retrieve records for visitors. Search the Research Indiana catalog or email IARA about a collection that is not online.
IARA is a route for state archival holdings, not the custodian for every Indiana deed, tax card, or local case. For those records, use the appropriate county or city office through the official Indiana county directory.
